The celebration of Halloween goes back thousands of years. Celtic people honoured the end of the summer season with Samhain — sort of the original, ancient version of Halloween. People celebrated their gods and goddesses with dancing and feasting, but they also celebrated those who had recently passed away by honouring their souls and spirits. While they wanted to commemorate the dead’s souls, people wore masks and costumes to avoid any potential contact with the recently deceased. They didn’t want any resentful or evil spirits to harm them, so by hiding under a costume, they felt safe.
Of course, Halloween is a little different now than it was thousands of years ago, but it’s still common practice to dress yourself and your home up for the scary holiday.

What’s scarier than a shadow of a vampire or a big, scary monster? Homemade black silhouettes of ominous creatures are perfect if you have a big casement window (or several) on your home’s façade. Such windows provide ample space to stick spooky images on with double-sided tape for the Halloween season.
Scare your neighbours by filling your windows with images of haunted castles, black cats, and other ghouls! The first step is to find the right printable stencils online. Purchase some construction paper (black, of course) from the local craft shop and trace your scary images’ outlines on to the paper. Next, with your double-sided tape, stick them on your front windows. Some people also like to add a wax paper layer between the window and the black cut-outs for a filtered, smoky effect.
